The Hohe Tauern national park with its beautiful countryside, which is among the world’s most impressive regions, is a patch of paradise. The national park has won international awards and is a Noah’s ark for fauna and flora at the same time. Even animals in danger of extinction like the bearded vulture or the ibex can be found here.
Highly qualified national park rangers pass on their experience and knowledge about the unique high mountain landscape to the visitors.
From July until September, more than 30 different guided hikes of all difficulty levels are offered every week. The national park rangers will tell you about all the regional wild animals and herbs, the world of the high mountains, the glaciers and the historic evidence of commerce and mining. There really is something for everybody.
In Neukirchen and its surroundings, there are various educational paths for hiking like the glacier educational path in the valley Obersulzbachtal or the public mine Hochfeld in the valley Untersulzbachtal. The paths near the Krimml waterfalls and the herbal gardens in Hollersbach are also worth a hike.
In the National Park Worlds in Mittersill, nature is within your reach. The flight of an eagle, a journey to the Arctic, different climate zones, a marmot burrow, the alpine flora and fauna, lots of trees, animals on mountain pastures in the Pinzgau, a hike alongside the stream, an avalanche – these are all things that you can experience in the National Park Worlds. A special highlight is the Panorama World, in which you can experience the Hohe Tauern in HD quality.
